About SAILOR PENG

About Sailor Peng

SAILOR PENG is a jewelry practice by Laura Peng. Built around one question: what gives an object its character?

The result is jewelry that moves between precision and irregularity, strength and sensitivity.

About Laura

For Laura, jewelry is a natural medium: a way to turn any kind of subject into objects that people make their own.

Her work moves between traditional craftsmanship, design and everyday life. Some pieces begin with a clear vision, others take shape in the making.

Today she works from her studio in Basel, making pieces by hand and with independent workshops in Switzerland and her hometown in Germany.

Reasons

  1. 01Keeping & Challenging Traditions

Traditional jewelry-making is a craft worth preserving and carrying forward.

  2. 02Made to Last

Each piece is made from precious metals to be worn, cared for, repaired and passed on.

  3. 03Small Runs

Produced in limited quantities, never in mass production.

Materials and Process

SAILOR PENG jewelry is developed in-house and produced either in the studio or in collaboration with independent workshops in Switzerland and Germany. Selected international collaborations arise through residencies and periods spent working abroad.

The studio works with sterling silver, gold and carefully selected gemstones, sourced from established precious metal suppliers and specialist stone dealers.

Solid precious metals are favored over plated finishes for their durability and capacity to be polished, repaired and reworked. Jewelry intended to last decades, not seasons.

Designs develop through sketches, wax models and prototypes, or take shape directly through traditional metalsmithing. Each piece is refined with attention to form, proportion and wearability before entering production in limited quantities.
